Moonflower Polish ~ PPU Nov ’18

*Provided for review

*Very wordy

Hello! I am so happy that this month is Bad Ass Women month over at Polish Pickup! As a woman, there isn’ t anything quite as powerful and uplifting as another strong female ❤ The polishes that have been created this month are just beyond amazing. “Moonflower Polish chose Carrie Fischer as Leia Organa. It’s important to make the distinction that MFP is using the actress as well as the character she’s most known for. As a person, Carrie was one of the most badass women in Hollywood. And huge mental health advocate, she was unapologetic about her issues and struggles. Nadia deeply admired her wit and passion about life. Yes, she had plenty of faults, but no one ever said she was perfect, and she never tried to be. That was one of the things she loved about her.
The character she played, was even more important to Nadia. From her first encounter with Darth Vader right at the beginning of New Hope, you knew this girl was a spitfire and more than she seemed. When Luke, Han, and Chewie are trying to rescue her, and she says “this is some rescue, you broke in here and don’t have a plan to get out”, then grabs the blaster from Luke and ends up rescuing them all instead…that’s when you knew she was not a princess in need of rescue. If you stop to think about it, she had just endured what could possibly be the most traumatic thing a person can experience, the destruction of her home planet, everything and everyone she knows and loves, gone in an instant, only to then be tortured and thrown in jail. Yet she never falters, she never quits, she never breaks, she has a mission and won’t stop till it’s completed. Years later, when we see her again in The Force Awakens we know her life between Return of the Jedi and then has had it’s share of heartbreak and struggles. Yet she’s still there, leading The Resistance and the fight against The First Order.
And that is why, for Badass Woman, Nadia did not want to use Princess Leia in her white outfit with buns in her hair or the skimpy gold bikini, she used to promotional pictures of her in The Last Jedi, as General Organa, leader of The Resistance.”

The General is a blueish gray creme base with red to gold color shifting aurora shimmers and scattered holo. Dual purpose, use for stamping or wear as regular polish in 1-2 coats. Dries semi-matte. The first thing I have to say about this is the formula was spectacular. Like totally flawless. The shimmer looked more hot pink than red to me. I actually paired it with pink 2 times without even realizing it. It stamps perfectly ❤ I have tons of pics to share with you for this one. It pairs with everything. I used 2 thin coats plus glossy and matte top coats for my swatches.

Moonflower Polish ~ PPU Oct. ’18

*Provided for review

thrawn

Hey guys! I have more polishes for you from this months Polish Pickup. The theme for October is Villains! Nadia from Moonflower Polish has chosen to take on Star Wars Grand Admiral Thrawn. “My love of sci-fi really became an obsession when I read the Heir to the Empire Trilogy (also known as the Thrawn Trilogy) by Timothy Zahn as a pre-teen. I consider them to be necessary reading for any Star Wars fan. For decades, the books, comics, and video games of the Star Wars Expanded Universe was all SW fans had until the prequels and new Episodes came out. Sadly, after Disney’s acquisition of SW, they re-branded all these materials as “Legends” and declared them non-cannon in April 2014. However, not all hope is lost as a few characters have made their way back, including Thrawn who was once again introduced as a villain in the Disney SW Rebels cartoon show. Thrawn is a humaniod alien in the Star Wars Universe, one of the few to rise the ranks in the Empire. He’s described as having blue skin with red eyes and black hair, and is known for his brilliant strategic mind and ruthlessness. My polish is inspired by his appearance and uniform.” I know that’s kind of a lot but I think it’s necessary. I am a Star Wars fan (not HUGE HUGE but still) and I had no idea this character existed. I am really happy to have this info and I want o have it out there for anyone else like me who didn’t know. Now that you have been here forever, you might as well get some pretty pics!

The Grand Admiral “is a bright cerulean blue creme with red shimmer, red-pink-gold aurora pigment, and gold, gunmetal, and red microflakes, with scattered holo.”  Fun fact: cerulean blue is my all time favorite color. I used to pronounce it ser-you-lean… I was like 10 lol. Anyways, this blue is so perfect for it’s inspiration. Like the exact color! Nadia’s polishes are always on the thicker side since they are specifically made for nail art and stamping. The Grand Admiral wasn’t too thick at all. Perfectly creamy and smooth. It could totally be a 1 coater. I used 2 coats plus glossy and matte top coat for my swatches.

                                                                        *Lots of pics

Hello! How is your holiday season so far? Have you finished your shopping? I have been super busy and am not even close to done shopping. Same as every year lol! I have some things to show you that may help you with your shopping for the nail lover in your life or maybe just for you…

The Star Wars inspired quarterly box from Ash, over at LevelUP Lacquer, will have 4 full size polishes and 1 bath bomb. I do not have the bath bomb for this post but I will give an update on IG when I have it! This box was up for pre-order but will be coming back later this month for anyone who didn’t get it 👍

First polish is For The Troopers. This polish is a white crelly base with black and grey hex glitters and a red, glass-fleck flash! For a crelly polish, I feel this one was easy to work with. Builds up beautifully with an even glitter pay out. I used 3 coats with a top coat.

The next polish is a jelly! Far Far Away is a bold blue jelly polish with different sizes of color shifting glitters. The glitters are just like the unicorn pee pigment. Soooo awesome.  I used 3 coats with top coat. This polish was nice and easy to work with.

Hope. I think this one is my favorite. Hope has a purple, gold, blue color shifting base with silver holo shreds. The first coat was a tad streaky but the second coat completes it. I used 2 coats with top coat.

Last, we have Rule Of Two. This one has a thermal base that goes from black to clear. It is a jelly base with red and black glitters and black flakies. I love thermals. This one is so bad ass!! Red and black together is just such a strong combo. This went on flawlessly in 3 coats with top coat.

Level Up Lacquer ~ Star Wars Collection

Happy Saturday!! Today I have for you a rebranded indie polish. Level Up Lacquer used to be Daring Digits! The owner, Ash, specializes in nerdy type polish and extras. For this post I will be showing you 4 out of 5 polishes from the Star Wars collection. I received this and another collection to swatch and was super happy to see that she sent me all full sized bottles! Thanks so much Ash ❤ Turns out I needed it lol. I had them almost all swatched but for Christmas I got a new Ottlite! I was so excited so I asked Ash if she minded that I start over with a better light. Thankfully she didn't give me a time constraint because I swatched and tried different lighting setups for over a week before I was happy enough with the outcome. And even now I know it could use improvements! Sorry for the long intro but its my blog right! This is how we connect and build a rapport! So, Polish!!!! This collection has a little of everything; jelly, crelly, holo, and glitter!

Lets check out The Dark Side first. This polish is a black jelly filled with black and red holographic glitters and an awesome purple shimmer. For me the shimmer even showed goldish green in some light. I could not get over the amount of holo in this polish. It was near impossible to get a picture that showed the glitters without a rainbow. The formula on this, and all of the polishes, is perfect. It applied itself! I used 3 coats and Glisten & Glow HKGirl top coat. It layered beautifully and the glitters didn’t clump or drag at all. So much depth!

Next is Artoo. This is a white crelly with blue hexes and squares and silver holo circle glitters. It also has a fine holo dust in it. No glitter fishing at all. A super smooth formula that was opaque in 3 thin coats with top coat.

BB-8 is a glitter topper in a clear base. It has tiny white glitters, orange and silver hexes, and white squares. The orange glitters are holo and it gives such an awesome spark to the polish. I didn’t have to fish for glitter but I do suggest leaving the bottle upside down while getting your base color on. I used an un named Bonita polish for my base with one smooth coat of BB-8. All topped with my HKGirl.
* I did use 2 coats on my ring and pinky fingers just to show the build up!

I saved my favorite for last! This is Captain Phasma, a grey linear holo polish with a gold shimmer. The shop description does not say gold shimmer but it totally looks like there is! This has the most perfect formula. It built up nicely in 3 thin coats. Top coated with HKGirl. Seriously love this so much. Cant wait to use it as a base for some stamping!

Overall, I am so much more than happy with all of these polishes and just the whole brand! Ash also has Star Wars water decals in her shop that range from $4-5! Each of these polishes are $9.25 Or you can get the full 5 piece set for $43.75! Make sure you get yours! Links below!!
